When was the last time you updated your website? That may sound like a silly question, but if you do not add something new to your website at least once a week you are losing ground. Google is always looking for updated websites. If they don’t find it they push your website lower and lower in their search ladder. When Google sends out their spider, which they do on a continual basis, and they find you updated your website they consider you are actively maintaining you site. They then move you up on their search ranking.
I know this works. I can take a new site and have it on the first page of Google within 1 week just by adding new content on a daily basis. When you get on the first page of Google you will find that people start to call you and ask for more information or purchase more of your products.
So how do you do this? One of the easiest ways to update a website is to build your website using WordPress. WordPress was originally designed to be a blog, but it has matured and is now a great way to build websites that get traffic. WordPress is the only program I now use for my sites.
What makes WordPress so easy is you can set up static pages, pages that hold your information that you don’t want to change, and Post pages. Post pages are the pages where you post information about you, your site, new work you are creating, new ideas you have developed, simple ideas that make your studio easier to work in. The post pages are where you add your weekly information. You don’t have to add a whole book. A short paragraph is normally enough. Google doesn’t care, as long as it is new.
If you have one of those old sites that you paid someone to create and you have no way to change it… you can still work around that problem. Get to your webmaster and have them convert it to WordPress. You want to be able to make changes yourself. You do not want to have to depend on someone else to make changes. If you can type and send an email you can update your website using WordPress.
