Lorraine Strieby is known for colorful Los Angeles cityscapes, jazz paintings, and Southwest paintings. The “2010 City of Angeles Calendar” which has 12 of her paintings will be reissued in 2014. Her studio in Chatsworth, CA, has plenty of natural light that enhances her finished paintings, as well as her prints. She has a keyboard in her Chatsworth studio so she can take a break in her painting and play a few cocktail tunes to inspire yet another painting.

The Los Angeles ands Oceanside Harbors are also places that she likes to visit for more inspiration. Her second studio near the Oceanside Harbor is a nice quiet place to work on her mixed-media seascapes. She sketches and takes photos and then works from a thumbnail sketch. She gets a thrill making the ocean from pieces of paper that look like water reflecting the sky. When she first started painting, she thought she couldn’t paint sky and water, but now her process makes the seascapes very interesting to the viewer.

She is not adverse to changing a painting mid-way. She believes to make a good painting is her goal, and using mixed-media is a good procedure to reach that goal. She is a purist in that her originals paintings are all mixed-media works–such as acrylics, collage, watercolor, and Prisma color pencils.

Her style is to use shimmering colors, glittering metals, and lots of patterns. At an early age she started playing the clarinet, accordian, piano, and now the keyboard. So her Jazz painting will reflect intricate moods, feelings and rhythms. An example of this is “One Starry Night” which will be in New York City in May at the Parallax Art Fair.

The Parallax Art Fair was conceived and curated by art historian and theorist Dr. Charles Barlow who lives in London, UK. He juried her into this famous international show in New York City and six of her paintings will be there during May 10 through May 12, 2013.

She has shown in galleries internationally in England, Wales, Taos, New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico , the Wing Gallery in Los Angeles, the SoHo South Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, and the French Quarter in New Orleans, to name a few. Her biography was selected for inclusion in “Who’s Who in America”, and her work was juried into the “Celebration of American Art” in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, November 05. Even though her paintings are whimsical, there is an inner spirit that comes through in each painting creating an uplifting mood.
